SAVE ON CHIC | There is a beautiful way to scrap the paper and cost of traditional invitations but keep the timeless elegance of stationery. With Paperless Post, an online stationery service charging just $5 for 60 invitations plus a way to track RSVPs, you’ll save time, money, the planet and your sanity.

Paperless Post is the brainchild of New York siblings and business partners Alexa and James Hirschfeld, who founded the custom online stationery service in 2008, packaging aesthetics and efficiency into one neat virtual envelope.

Their realistic-looking designs, ranging from modern casual to formal modern, have none of the advertising and tacky graphics typical of free e-cards, setting Paperless Post apart from sites like Evite. This is what attracted Ruthie Shugarman, a Kerrisdale real-estate agent, who has used the service numerous times to invite friends and associates to the clothing exchange parties she hosts, which also benefit local charities.

“When you get an e-mail, it looks like an envelope and it has your name on it-that’s all that’s on your screen. It says ‘click to open’ and it literally opens and the invitation slides out,” Shugarman says. “They have black velvet ribbon and it looks like black velvet ribbon!”

With a style and sophistication typically reserved for wedding invitations, Paperless Post stationery all but guarantees a “will attend” response on the reply card for your next event, whether it’s a professional meeting of 12 or a frock swap for 200. — Marina Shevchuk

Visit paperlesspost.com to see their range of invitations and note cards, which are new this month. And thanks to Ruthie Shugarman for introducing us to this service.

What a great idea. This is really unique and quite classy for a special invitation. The cost per card or invite is very small. What a nice way to send a card, note or invite to someone – much more special that sending an email. You get the look of an envelope and paper card with very lovely designs and colours.
