This cool new dental tool can help with a cumbersome chore many of us avoid like the plague.

MONEY WELL SPENT | Floss much? Didn’t think so. Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Daily flossing is as important as daily brushing, but most people don’t floss routinely, and if/when they do floss, it’s guilt flossing, the kind you engage in just before or after a trek to the dentist.

If you only brush your teeth and never floss them, you are not cleaning one third of the surface in your mouth. Plain old dental floss is the best and least expensive tool for flossing, but if you buy this product (or any of the other products for cleaning between your teeth) and never use it, not only are you wasting money up front but also setting the stage for plaque build-up that may result in expensive dental bills down the line.

Now, for those who never floss or for whom flossing is a serious challenge (think teenagers with braces), comes AirFloss, a dead simple electric product that removes 99 percent more plaque between teeth than brushing with a manual toothbrush alone. The best part is AirFlossing is fast; it takes just 60 seconds to do an entire mouth.

What is AirFloss?

Air+Floss+Cute GuySonicare AirFloss is an electric rechargeable unit that cleans between the teeth with an angled nozzle that delivers pressurized bursts of water (or undiluted fluoride mouthwash if you choose) and air. The force of these “microbursts” is powerful enough to clean the sides of the teeth and dislodge any particles left behind after eating.

As someone who uses old school dental floss every day, I was sceptical that an electric product could be anywhere near as effective, and I don’t know if it is, but I do know my mouth definitely feels superclean after AirFlossing, particularly when I put mouthwash in its reservoir.

Where To Buy AirFloss

Airfloss UnitAirFloss is available at drugstores like London Drugs, and online at Amazon.com, but the best price I found it for was at Costco, where they sell units for $64.50 each (you must buy a two-pack for $129), which, depending on your oral hygiene habits, is not a bad investment in the future of your teeth. —Ruth Rainey

GUM has a new Easy thread floss that is ideal for the problem areas such as under bridges or implants or braces. It has a re-enforced plastic end that makes threading easy and the floss is a nice multi fibered type that cleans well without leaving floss debris behind. The perfect tool for the hard to access area. Available at all major drugstores.
