Red Jeans Look Great On Just About Anyone
The lucky colour for Chinese New Year, red works for just about anyone anytime.
SHOPPING AROUND | “Tangerine Tango” may be the Pantone colour of 2012, as Sarah Richardson reported in The Globe and Mail last weekend, but I’m not sure how many fashion retailers got the memo. Local shops are showing red right now, particularly in the pants department. Red jeans can be spotted on everyone who is anyone—Ines de la Fressange, Reece Witherspoon, you name her—and I just don’t see these women trading in their ruby trousers for orange ones anytime soon because red is the more flattering colour all around.
Red jeans really can look good on just about anyone, providing they’re not too Rudolph—as in shockingly bright. The toned-down Russian Red stretch skinny jean leggings from the Gap (pictured above) cost more than I was hoping to spend ($69.95) on a supertrendy item that will be old news in a few seasons, but I bought them anyway because they were a great fit. I had wanted to try on Old Navy’s less-expensive Rock Star jeggings in Ruby (under $40) but couldn’t find my size anywhere but online (CLICK HERE to see these pants).
If, unlike me, a heightened state of trendiness is never factored into what you will or will not pay for a piece of clothing, CLICK HERE to check out Polyvore, where you’ll find a sea of red jeans by the most popular manufacturers. —Annabel Lee
