4 Sources For Big Rolls Of Great Holiday Gift-Wrap
When buying holiday gift-wrapping paper, go big or go home.
SAVE MONEY + TIME | The most cost-effective time to buy Christmas wrap and ribbon is in January when it’s discounted by half or more. Almost as good is to buy it now in large and luxurious rolls. Not only is there a cost savings when you buy big, but there’s also the peace of mind from knowing you have enough paper no matter what shape or how large the gift. This year I’m going for stylish big-bulk rolls, and also for tough. I want paper that can stand up to peeking, paper that’s not bible-tissue wuss-wrap that tears at the slightest tug.
4 Great Local Sources For Big-Bulk Wrap
Eddie’s Hang-Up Display—My number one source for large rolls of gift wrap. Eddie’s papers are thick and sturdy, and come in a broad range of paper types (metallic, kraft, simple sheen, recycled) and designs (traditional, contemporary, solid colours, patterns that appeal to children). Buy three rolls of 24 inches by 100 feet each for $25 per roll.

Costco—Two premium quality “counter” rolls (this suggests sturdy store-grade wrap to me) for Christmas. One is a heavyweight foil, 228 square feet for $11.39, and my favourite an equally heavy reversible print, 400 square feet for $11.99. Both rolls come in a variety of quiet, pleasant, seasonal colours.
Available at all Lower Mainland Costco locations, www.costco.com.
IKEA—Is it wishful thinking or have IKEA gift-wrapping papers gotten a little sturdier? They feel a little tougher to me, but maybe I’m making excuses because I love their stylish, contemporary, Scandinavian patterns so much. Their bulk rolls are 27 1/2 inches wide by 50 feet long for $7.99. Also worth a serious look are their Sonovita wide-bottom festive-patterned kraft paper string-tie envelopes (13 by 17 inches), in packages of three for $4.99; and their bold, graphic, “really big” shopping-style bags (18 by 28 inches), $2.99 each.
At all IKEA locations across Canada, www.ikea.com.
Real Canadian Superstore—Don’t sneeze on this paper (my code for thin and fragile) and you may be okay. Local wrapping paper probably doesn’t get much cheaper than $6 for 30 inches by 83 feet of super traditional patterns or “old-fashioned modern” prints.
