Studio Sessions At The Eastside Culture Crawl
Doing the Eastside Culture Crawl, Vancouver’s longest-standing open studio event, calls for getting strategic.
SHOPPING AROUND | With 427 artists showing their artworks and wares at 82 different locations, it’s hard to know how to attack Vancouver’s 15th annual Eastside Culture Crawl, which starts November 16 at 5 p.m. and continues through Sunday.
If you’re like me, there’s no way you have more than an afternoon to spare gallivanting around these studios so you’ll need to get strategic.
How To Do The Crawl
One way to do this is to first visit the event’s official website, scroll through their roster of artists to see which ones catch your eye and make sure you visit them (CLICK HERE to see the list). Another is to use the handy map on the Crawl’s website to locate a clutch of studios within short walking distance from one another (CLICK HERE to check the map). A third way to go is to target the buildings with the largest number of studios and plan to cruise through them (CLICK HERE to browse the buildings).
The Parker Street Studios, at 1000 Parker Street, was, in 1995, one of the earliest artisan collectives to tap into the crawl concept, and this collection of 145 studios continues to team with talent.
Among my favourites at the Parker Street Studios are the always inventive Straight Line Designs (pictured directly above), By Nature (pictured at the top of the story) and Martina Voss Upholstery Couture (pictured below).
