34 dresses, 17 superstar labels, everything priced under $50—what’s not to love about Target’s marathon fashion event that kicks off this coming Sunday?
CHEAP + CHIC | What do Zac Posen, Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte and Tucker have in common besides being some of the most buzzed-about fashion labels in the western hemisphere in recent years? Target, that’s what.
Since 2006, Target, through its GO International fashion program, has enlisted these and other haute couturiers to sprinkle their pixie dust over the ready-to-wear crowd. And this is precisely what they’ve done, with high-fashion low-end collections noted for their dramatic silhouettes, signature prints, details that surprise and price point, which they always rock because everything is (almost) cheaper than dirt.
Now, for 49 days in March and April, Target will re-release 34 of its most popular dresses from the labels listed above (view them with our link below).
I own interesting and imaginative pieces from some of these collections and am always surprised by the quality of their construction, particularly considering the price point and the level of detailing. It seems that when a big fashion name with an international reputation for high design and quality is attached to a low-end project (at least one with Target), he or she will approach it with the same degree of discipline brought to their regular work.
1. Never buy anything you haven’t tried on first. Typically, sizing is an issue with these clothes, and the cuts are hit and miss.
2. Think youthful while remembering your age. A lot of this fashion skews teenage (these dresses certainly do), but you will find things that suit you—and your daughter, too.
3. Shop early. When prices are this low, the best pieces fly off the racks.—C. Rule
