SALES WE LOVE | Frugalbits loves fashion at every price point when the clothing offers great value for money spent, but unless an upmarket item grabs us by the carotid, we are likely to wait for higher-end apparel to drop in price. This is why a great luxury brand warehouse sale will always get us pumped: make us rise early, even stand in line for a chance at the pick of the discounted stock. By the time you read this today, we’ll be down at Suite 201, 141 West 7th Avenue in Vancouver, where Obakki’s always-anticipated annual blowout begins at 11 a.m. We’ll be hoping to pick up a few fine pieces from the stylish collection for a fraction of the original price.

Vogue, InStyle, Oprah, Zink, WWD, Us, People, you name it, Obakki jackets, skirts and dresses are a staple among the fashion stylists who work for top North American magazines. They have got to be loving what we love about these clothes: their strong  architecture, their obvious femininity (or masculinity in the case of their menswear), their body-flattering drape. Founder and creative director Treana Peake’s easy-to-wear manufactured-in-Vancouver fashions have earned her a strong following among fashion insiders and celebrities because they are that comfortable combination of understated and (a little bit) edgy at the same time.

Margot Robinson, who manages Obakki’s gorgeous retail flagship in Gastown, says shoppers attending the warehouse sale will be treated to a range of items from the last two seasons, and that they can expect “tremendous” discounts on everything (the regular price for retail items ranges from $200 to $600). While she couldn’t say exactly what the percentage of savings will be, she did say that clothing items will be organized by type and that each type will be a single price. For example, all dresses, no matter what they retailed for initially, will be one price. Ditto for tanks, blouses, men’s fashions, etc. Robinson says there will be new merchandise on each of the three days of the sale, plus one-of-a-kind samples and special items, such as scarves, cut and sewn for the sale. —Annabel Lee
