Keep Your Best Clothes In Nonwoven Poly Bags

Who knew that nonwoven polypropylene could actually protect your best garments from evil clothes-eating moths?

THE FIX | I’ve done a lot of things to rid my home of casemaking clothes moths (CLICK HERE for our Frugalbits how to) but, until recently when I read about it on goop, I didn’t know that a particular material used to make clothing storage containers might actually ward off these hungry insects. According to Gwynnie and, as it turns out, a gaggle of other Internet home-keeping pundits, breathable nonwoven polypropylene, the material found in those ubiquitous grocery shopping bags, may do just that.

While I refuse to use nonwoven polypropylene shoppers (CLICK HERE for the rationale), nonwoven storage receptacles that (in theory) last indefinitely do make some sense. The only problem with most of the ones that come free with big ticket fashion items like suits or coats is that they’re nontransparent; unless you unzip them, you have no way of knowing what’s inside.

For this reason, I love the inexpensive multicolour nonwoven garment bags pictured here that have clear plastic at the top that allows you to see what’s on your hanger. (We found THESE on eBay.)

Of course you don’t need to store all your clothing in these bags, but, to be on the safe side, you might want to bag up everything made of 100 percent wool, cashmere, silk or fine cotton. Just sayin’. —C. Rule
