EASY & DELISH | While I love the convenience of microwave popcorn, I stopped buying this product several years ago because of worrisome news about the potential health risks to humans posed by exposure to chemicals found both in the fake butter flavoring on microwave popcorn kernels and on the lining of microwave popping bags.

I also stopped buying commercial brand microwave popcorn because a friend showed me how to make a cheaper, healthier, equally quick alternative.

DIY Microwave Popcorn

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image26766389Nothing is easier than making microwave popcorn. All you need is 1/4 cup popping corn, a paper lunch bag and a functioning microwave oven.

Toss popcorn into the brown paper bag. Fold down the top two times, creasing each fold with your fingers. Place paper bag in the microwave folded side up. Cook on high power until there are three to five seconds between pops (around two to three minutes). Open bag carefully. Add your choice of seasonings. —Ruth Rainey
