This handy kitchen gadget measures out perfect pats of butter that are easy to spread.
MONEY WELL SPENT | Yes, I know butter is healthier for you than margarine is (CLICK HERE for an excellent Globe and Mail article on the subject), but tell that to my knife in the morning when I’m trying to have my way with toast.
My biggest beef with butter is that it’s always cold and hard when it comes out of the fridge when I need it to be soft and ready to spread like margarine. For this reason, until recently, I always chose a schmeer of oleo rather than a chunk of butter when it was time to slather warm buns.
Now I have another option. I can reach for my new favourite kitchen gadget, the One-Click Butter Cutter.
The one-click butter cutter is a butter holder and pat dispenser combined in a single unit. Simply insert a stick of butter into the chamber and then use one hand to squeeze out 35-calorie pats of cold butter that quickly rise to room temperature.
There’s a video on the one-click website that shows a guy banging off pats of butter like he’s firing an AR-15 with a high-capacity magazine. I suppose this is possible, but I have yet to squeeze off more than six pats without having to fiddle with the unit. Never mind, though, I love this contraption—it delivers the soft butter I want. — Ruth Rainey
