THE PRICE IS RIGHT | As someone who is at this very moment staring at a mile-high years-in-the-making pile of magazines that needs to be schlepped to the dump, I look forward to switching from print publications to digital ones.

On Monday, I signed up for a free month-long trial at NextIssue.ca, an app that allows me iPad access to current and back issues of more than 100 popular Canadian and American magazines. Since then, I’ve downloaded and perused the latest offerings from Vogue, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler and Dwell. Had I purchased every one of these periodicals in print form, I’d have dropped close to $30.

Next Issue, a Rogers Publishing collaboration with U.S. media behemoths Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith and TimeInc., is an all you-can-consume smorgasbord of magazine content (CLICK HERE to see the wide range of magazines they offer) for a Netflix-like price of just $10 a month.

Ask me in a month whether or not I’m still as infatuated with Next Issue as I am right now. One thing I see that will be a problem for me is that Next Issue does not come with a way to permanently save individual stories to a personal file (Zinio, their competition, allows you to bookmark favourites) so I can refer to them later or show them to a friend. As a soon-to-be-former print magazine hoarder (and a diehard article clipper), they’re going to need to add this feature to keep me engaged for the long run. — Ruth Rainey
