Cheap, Chic & Boutique Hotels In Vancouver

Where to get an awesome room in a great hotel in Vancouver right now.

Listel Christmas LobbyTRAVEL ADVISORY | If you read Frugalbits routinely, you already know that when we travel we prefer hotels with big personalities, either in appearance or the overall experience. Of course we wish no less for our friends when they come to visit us in Vancouver. If you are expecting Christmas guests this week like we are, and you’re already tapped out room-wise chez vous, consider putting up your visitors in one of the following three stylish boutique hotels that are offering super deals for great quality.

Cheap & Chic In Vancouver Right Now

The Listel Hotel—This 129-room hotel (lobby shown above) is one of our favourites for three reasons: 1. Price—always competitive, The Listel offers huge value for a modest outlay; 2. Location—how perfect is Robson Street? 3. Culture in spades—art and design lovers will be pinching themselves.

Vancouver’s Wallpaper City Guide says it better than we could: “The hotels you never forget offer something unique to see, do or learn; they reflect what Alexander Pope called ‘the genius of the place.’ The Listel Hotel is such a place.” What wowed them and us are the Museum Floors, with First Nations artworks supplied by the Museum of Anthropology, and the Gallery Floors, with contemporary artworks hung by the prestigious Buschlen Mowatt Galleries. Use the “HoHo” promo code when you book online or over the phone and get a standard room for $99, a museum floor room for $109 or a gallery floor room for $119 (subject to availability).

Moda Guest RoomModa Hotel—Stylish and spare, the 57-room Moda is a marriage of history and modern design: a 1908 building with a 2010 interior—with delicious historical details thankfully preserved. Adjacent to the Moda is an excellent wine store, a solid trattoria and two really great bars. One of them, Uva, serves a stop-worthy coffee and breakfast every morning.

The Moda describes itself as an affordable indulgence, and with specials like $99 a night including parking, we would have to concur.

Loden Hotel Guest RoomLoden Hotel —Why have we included the Loden, TripAdvisor’s number one luxury hotel in Canada, on our cheap & chic list? Because, if it’s top-tier accom- modation you want, this 77-room gem on Melville Street (in a block that feels a bit like Manhattan’s Upper East Side) is the perfect alternative to those big-box luxury chains.

“Considered” is the best word to describe everything about this establishment. Sumptuous décor, impeccable service, fabulous food in their restaurant: what more could you want from a sophisticated property—except maybe a spectacular price? And right now you can get a room at the Loden for a surprisingly low $179 a night (not the price listed on their site, but the price we were quoted over the telephone yesterday).
