The Best Place For Eyebrow Threading
Chasing the perfect brow? Here’s the best (and least expensive) place to have your eyebrows threaded locally.
CHEAP & FANTASTIC | Eyebrows can be tweezed, waxed or threaded. Of these three techniques, I prefer threading, and not just because I pay $5 to have them done this way. Threading is quicker than tweezing (typically taking fewer than 10 minutes), less painful overall than waxing and, to my mind, results in a crisper, more finished look than either of the other methods.
How Eyebrow Threading Works
For those who haven’t tried threading, the preferred method of removing unwanted body hair in the Middle East, India and Asia, the technique involves two strands of 100 percent cotton thread that are twisted and rolled quickly along the surface of the skin, pulling out whole rows of hair at the follicle. Where I have it done, the technicians follow up with tweezers and scissors to fine-tune the finished lines.
While some threading technicians do not speak fluent English, they all speak fluent eyebrow, so don’t worry about winding up with overly arched or razor-thin brows unless this is the look you want. If you can’t stop obsessing about how your threaded brows will turn out, bring along a photo of your favourite celebrity’s eyebrows (I’ve done this and it makes a difference) for your tech to check before she starts working the strings.
The place where I have my eyebrows threaded, as do my daughter and all of her friends, isn’t Holt Renfrew-Benefit Brow Bar stylish by a long shot. But I have had my eyebrows done in both places, and while I like the Brow Bar and some of their products, I can honestly say that my $5 thread job is equally—if not more—fabulous, especially considering the price.—C. Hmmmmmm…. used to have brows done this way…. result ? One is permanently growing straight out…. the sessions were PAINFUL, red scabs took about 5 days to disappear…. recommend it to no one !
So sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like you may have run into a very bad practitioner. I have had absolutely no problems using this method, and no one I know who has had their eyebrows threaded has had the kind of problems you are describing. How does it work on eyebrows that never grow much, hairs are short, sparse and stick out in different directions. My eyebrows look awful & I ignore them but realize that they could look better

It’s pretty amazing what beautiful eyebrows can do for your face. I really don’t know about taming rogue hairs, but one thing that might work for them is eyebrow gel. Not sure who makes it but will ask our beauty editor Allison Emery about this. Also check our story on Latisse. I think they also make an eyebrow growth serum, which might be a help to you. Don’t know whether threading would be the best for you, but it might start the ball rolling. Good luck —eds

Eyebrows are a very personal facial accessory. Some of us don’t require a lot of hair removal, but most of us need a regular trimming. It’s hard to say because I have not seen your brows, but I have a feeling that you could get them trimmed and then it would be easier to see their natural shape. If you feel comfortable, I would love to see a picture of you and then perhaps I could give you a more personal recommendation. Thanks for sharing.
